Publication for Young Writers Ages 13 to 22

Over morning coffee, I thumbed through my January/February issue of Poets and Writers Magazine. Something I value about the magazine is the classifieds section in the back that includes calls for manuscripts and lists of contests. I have an essay that feels just about ready to submit again, and I wanted to see what magazines and websites are looking for non-traditional forms.

But I’m easily distracted. I saw a call for submissions for an 2013 young writers anthology called VerbalEyze, which is a non-profit organization that “supports the development and professional growth of young writers.” You can learn more about the contest and how to submit by going to http://www.verbaleyze.org.

The guidelines are very open ended. They will accept poetry, short story, non-fiction songwriting, playwriting, graphic novel.

What do you have to lose? Get your work out there. If you win, you will get some money to help pay for college. If you don’t, you still gain experience.
