Creative Nonfiction Publication Resources

Literary Magazines

Here’s my list of places to research for attempting to publish creative non-fiction. It is a combination of advice from my writing group / well-published mentors, and the Writer’s Chronicle from the AWP.

(Updated September 2012)

Listed in no particular order…

Creative Nonfiction – out of Pittsburgh. “True Stories. Well Told.”
4th Genre – Both traditional forms and experimental. Published twice per year.
River Teeth – a resource to find places to publish in magazines–better than the writer’s market
Upstreet Magazine
Kenyon Review
Iowa Review
Missouri Review
Shadowbox Magazine (non-traditional forms) – Harrison started this one recently
Broken Plate
South Loop Review
Muse and Stone
North Central Review -Magazine specifically for undergraduate writing.
The Cold Mountain Review
Cezanne’s Carrot – “Fiction and nonfiction that celebrates the universe and the human experience in uplifting, revolutionary ways.”
Bellevue Literary Review – Submission Guidelines
Plain View Press – Submissions not currently being accepted due to reorganization.

– A Journal of Food and Culture
Brevity Magazine – A Journal of Concise Literary Nonfiction
