ENGL3084 | Documentary Film Analysis

  • Find a documentary film at your local library or video store.  Feel free to partner up with others by choosing the same film.
  • Watch the video.
  • Consider the following questions with detail and thoughtfulness.
  • Post to Blackboard Discussion “Documentary Analysis”: a polished 750 word movie review that includes the answers to some of these questions.
  1. What is the title and release date of the documentary?  Who is the producer? Who sponsored the production of the documentary?
  2. Give a summary of the content.
  3. What social and cultural contexts exist in the film?
  4. What ethical issues do you think the author faced in crafting the film?
  5. What types of research do you think the author had to do in order to complete the project?  What limitations do you think he/she experienced?
  6. What is the overall feeling you get after watching the film?
  7. How does the film inform your understanding of the qualities of documentary writing?
  8. What elements from this film do you want to keep in mind as you begin crafting your own multimedia documentary?
